This Mindfulness course is the original and widely researched 8-week MBSR-Program, as devised by Jon Kabat-Zinn and is designed to teach participants how to understand and work with the mind-body connection in order to reduce stress and improve self regulation. Taught by highly experienced teachers, this very accessible mindfulness programs provides training in a variety of techniques, including mindfulness meditation, relaxing body awareness practices and gentle yoga type exercises.
Over the 8 week series participants in the mbsr stress reduction program will learn through discussion and exploration to develop an awareness and understanding of stress physiology and the mind-body connection. And become proficient in applying a number of mindfulness techniques which they can practice themselves whenever they need, to reduce stress and help with self-regulation. Taught by highly experienced teachers who have trained with the Center for Mindfulness at UMASS, the MBSR-Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program is the most widely researched and highly acclaimed mindfulness program in the world. Since it’s inception in 1979, this program has consistently been shown to produce measurable effects in the areas of stress reduction, emotional regulation, pain management, hypertension, immune response, improved focus, awareness and better communication and overall quality of life. Mindfulness is now being taught at thousands of hospitals, universities and medical centers around the world and the principles of mindfulness have been embraced by a wide range of public and private organizations around the globe. Our Mindfulness program takes place over 8 weeks, with nine sessions total, including a day long immersion on a Saturday, Nov 18th. No prior meditation or yoga experience necessary. This mindfulness program is specifically designed to be a great introduction to mindfulness practice and is suitable for people of all levels of ability and from all walks of life. Instructors
Beth Mulligan

Beth Mulligan, PA-C is a certified MBSR teacher, teacher trainer, and adjunct faculty through the UMASS Center for Mindfulness. She has been teaching MBSR for over a decade to diverse populations; from the critically ill, to non-profit organizations, the underserved, educators, and corporate leaders. She currently teaches at the Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine at UCI and Insight LA. Beth teaches the 10-week and nine-day practicum for teachers in training nationally and internationally. Beth is a certified Mindful Self-Compassion teacher and teacher trainer and does international training for the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion.
Beth has a background in primary care medicine as a Board Certified Physician Assistant having graduated Magna cum Laude from Duke University and has practiced medicine for over thirty years. She is a long time student of Charles Tenshin Fletcher, Roshi at Yokoji Zen Mountain Center where she has lived in residence. Beth is the Guiding Dharma teacher at Insight Community of the Desert and is a certified yoga instructor.

Ian Challis

Ian Challis is highly trained in teaching Mindfulness meditation, including the world renowned program Mindfulness –Based Stress Reduction. Ian has practiced mindfulness meditation intensively for the last 12 years. He is a regular teacher at Insight Community of the Desert in Palm Springs, where he is also a founding board member and past president. In 2017 he graduated from Spirit Rock Meditation Center’s selective CDL training program. He is currently enrolled in the Mindfulness Based Training Institute of UC San Diego in the MBSR pathway. Trained in Architecture, he has had a long and successful career as an entrepreneurial product designer and manufacturer in the gift and home décor sectors. A native of Seattle, he now makes his home in Palm Springs and he is passionate about bringing mindfulness practices to our desert communities.
