Sit in stillness, practice yoga as the Sun rises, walk the Labyrinth, swim in the pools, hike the trails, enjoy delicious vegetarian food, bang on a drum and watch the night sky during a weekend designed to be a gentle blend of meditation, yoga, awareness practice and fun. The emphasis of this retreat is mindful awareness of each and every activity regardless of your level of experience, and we offer optional introduction / refresher meditation and mindfulness sessions, making it a great retreat program for people of all levels from beginner to seasoned practitioner .

Mindful-Way Weekend Retreat
Mindful-Way is a Mindfulness education organization, that provides mindfulness classes, retreats and professional training for individuals and organizations across North America and around the world. Since 2007 we have been finding beautiful venues and leading our Weekend Mindfulness Retreats as a way to combine the time tested practices of Meditation and Yoga with other fun and creative ways to explore mindful awareness. Our summer weekend retreat continues to be one of our most popular programs year after year.
Retreat Location
This weekend retreat takes place at the historic Joshua Tree Retreat Center in Joshua Tree California: Located adjacent the Joshua Tree National park, this stunning Frank Lloyd Wright and sons facility combines beautiful meditation spaces, water features, hot and cold swimming pools, with incrediblt landscaped pathways, iconic Joshua Trees, a labyrinth, and hiking trails. All meeting spaces and accommmodations at this custom built retreat facility are fully Air Conditioned and the property is located about 2 hours drive East of Los Angeles, 2 1/2 Hours NE of San Diego.
Accommodations
Single , Group, and Dorm Style rooms available.
Single Room: – A private Room with en suite bathroom.
Group / Shared accommodation: – Reserve a small cottage or Apartment w/en suite bathroom for you and your group of family or friends, (up to 6 people per apartment or cottage). A place to include names of people in your party is available during registration.
Dorm Style Room: – Shared room or small apartment, en suite, with 2 – 5 people per room
All Rooms and Meeting spaces are Fully Climate Controlled / heated / Air Conditioned.
Meals
Evening meal served on Friday. Saturday – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Sunday – Breakfast and Lunch. All our meals are vegetarian, prepared by an expert chef who specializes in catering to retreat groups. The food is truly excellent, plentiful and very tasty. Teas, coffee, water, and some light snacks or fruit available throughout the day. A small selection of vegan options are usually also available. Please note* There is no food storage/refrigeration facility guaranteed in any of the rooms. If you have special requirements, you may want to bring your own cooler.
Program includes
- Daily periods of meditation practice.
- Optional introductory / refresher sessions for students new to mindfulness and meditation.
- Talks by highly trained teachers on meditation and mindfulness.
- 3 teacher led yoga sessions including early morning yoga.
- 6 Delicious vegetarian meals, with tea, coffee, water, snacks available throughout the day.
- Mindful Sound and movement workshop with drum circle -No prior experience necessary – All instruments provided.
- Personal time to relax, read, journal, explore the property, walk the labyrinth, visit the pools or hike a trail.
- Large hot pool and Swimming pool on site.
The entire program is specifically designed to be suitable and relevant for people of all levels of practice.
Registration and Schedule
Registration begins on Friday afternoon, 3:30 – 5:30 PM, followed by dinner at 6:00 PM. Our first formal session will begin at 7:15 pm. (Arrangements can be made for late registration / check in.) Saturday schedule will run from 6:30 AM with optional yoga and will consist of periods of guided and unguided meditation, Movement, Walking, Talks by the teachers, Free time to explore the grounds, and sound and movement workshop, which concludes at 9:30 PM Our program concludes on Sunday at 12:30 pm followed by lunch in the dining room (All Times are Approximate and all programs designed to be suitable for any level of practice.)

All programs are optional, however, Participants are strongly encouraged to attend all practice sessions.
In addition to our main programs, a teacher led introduction to meditation session is available for people new to practice, or looking to attend a refresher class.

Refund Policy: Cancellation on or before May 30th, refund minus $100.00 admin fee. May 31st – June 28th, refund minus 50%. June 29th -July 19th refund minus 65%. After July 19th no refund. No refund for week of cancellation or no shows.
Instructors
Beth Mulligan

Beth Mulligan, PA-C is a certified MBSR teacher, teacher trainer, and adjunct faculty through the UMASS Center for Mindfulness. She has been teaching MBSR for over a decade to diverse populations; from the critically ill, to non-profit organizations, the underserved, educators, and corporate leaders. She currently teaches at the Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine at UCI and Insight LA. Beth teaches the 10-week and nine-day practicum for teachers in training nationally and internationally. Beth is a certified Mindful Self-Compassion teacher and teacher trainer and does international training for the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion.
Beth has a background in primary care medicine as a Board Certified Physician Assistant having graduated Magna cum Laude from Duke University and has practiced medicine for over thirty years. She is a long time student of Charles Tenshin Fletcher, Roshi at Yokoji Zen Mountain Center where she has lived in residence. Beth is the Guiding Dharma teacher at Insight Community of the Desert and is a certified yoga instructor.

Hugh O’Neill

Hugh O’Neill is co-owner of Mindful-Way.com, and a certified MBSR Teacher and International teacher trainer and retreat leader. Hugh has studied and practiced meditation and yoga for more than 20 years. His many years of creative and management experience in the media industry, including significant time working in international news and documentary production, combined with his intensive training in Mindfulness Meditation programs enable him to skillfully relate the concepts and practices of mindfulness with sensitivity and compassion to a wide range of populations. His experience working in the news business in Ireland and Northern Ireland has given him personal experience with Gun Violence; combined with his training in Trauma Informed Mindfulness makes him a key part of our work with offering MBSR to Survivors Empowered.. Hugh has taught more than 100 MBSR courses and dozens of other mindfulness programs at universities, medical centers, corporations and government agencies including the US Navy. He is the lead instructor on a multi year- multi site NIH study on MBSR for Parents of developmentally delayed children. Hugh has also been a presenter at the International Scientific Conference on Mindfulness, is a regular event speaker, and is the lead mindfulness teacher in a number of clinical research projects. Hugh has trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction with the originator of the MBSR program, Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn Ph.D. He has studied and lived in residence at Yokoji Zen Mountain Center under the guidance of Zen Master Charles Tenshin Fletcher, Roshi, and is Certified as an MBSR teacher through the UCSD Center for Mindfulness.
Jamie Martin

Yoga found Jamie over a decade ago in the heart of South Carolina. In 2013, she moved to San Diego to infuse her life with more joy and enrolled in a teacher-training program. She is honored to share the teachings of yoga and aims to foster a safe, supportive environment to empower her students and rediscover their wholeness.
Noelle Pederson

Noelle Pederson is a Board Certified Music Therapist, working with diverse populations, which include the NICU, Hospice and Palliative Care for over a decade. She is also a gifted musician, joy maker and experienced meditator and Yogi. She says; “It is my belief that we are all born beings who are creative, expressive, and in search of connection.
