Mindful Resilience; Meeting challenges with Compassion and Awareness

A 5 Day Silent Teacher lead Mindfulness Meditation Retreat
Join us for 5 Days of intensive meditation practice, focusing on building our capacity to meet challenges with resilience through Mindfulness. Open to everyone and appropriate for people interested in teaching Mindfulness Based Interventions. This retreat is an opportunity to renew and deepen your practice of mindfulness meditation and living fully. In a strong, supportive, and beautiful environment, enhanced by silence, and with experienced teachers, much of our time will be spent engaged in sitting, and walking meditation with periods of Mindful Movement. The teachers will offer daily talks, lead discussions, and offer individual meetings.
Our program will be Led by Charles Tenshin Fletcher Roshi, Abbot of Yokoji Zen Mountain Center;
Beth Mulligan Insight Dharma teacher, and UMASS/CFM, Certified MBSR teacher/ teacher trainer,
and Hugh O’Neill, UMASS trained MBSR teacher, and Co-Founder of Mindful-Way mindfulness based training programs

Retreat Fees

Retreat fees cover all meals, programs and 5 nights accommodation.

Basic accommodation is a shared room with bathroom en suite. A limited number of Single rooms with ensuite bathrooms are also available for an additional charge.
All the accommodations are fully heated and air-conditioned. Bed linens, pillow, blanket, soap, and towels are provided.
There is also a swimming pool and a large warm pool on site.

Retreat Schedule

Tuesday afternoon through Sunday lunchtime.

Check in from 3:00pm on Tuesday, 13th January.

Orientation for people new to Meditation 4:30pm,

Dinner 6:00pm, Program Starts 7:30pm Tuesday.

Check out after lunch 12:30pm on Sunday, 18th

This is a secular mindfulness meditation retreat
structured to cater to people of all levels of experience.
Beginners to Meditation are welcome.

The Teachers

Charles Tenshin Fletcher - Roshi

Charles Tenshin Fletcher Roshi came to the United States from England in 1979 to study at the Zen Center of Los Angeles with founder Taizan Maezumi Roshi. In 1994, Tenshin Roshi received Dharma Transmission (authorization to teach) in the White Plum lineage from Maezumi Roshi, and Inka from Genpo Merzel Roshi in 2006 (Zen Master, final seal of approval). He acted as administrator for many years at ZCLA and is now the primary teacher and abbot at Yokoji-Zen Mountain Center. He also has over 20 years of voice dialog experience, a psychological technique described by its founders as an "empowering psychospiritual approach to relationship, personal growth and communication". Tenshin Roshi is co-author of "The Way of Zen" a comprehensive book on Zen Buddhism.

Beth Mulligan PA-C

Beth Mulligan, PA-C is a certified MBSR teacher and teacher trainer through UMASS Center for Mindfulness. She has been teaching MBSR for over a decade to diverse populations. She currently teaches at the Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine at UCI and Insight LA. Beth teaches the 10 week and 9 day practicum for teachers in training. She is also trained in and teaches Mindful Eating and Mindful Self Compassion programs. Beth has a background in primary care medicine as a Board Certified Physician Assistant and has practiced medicine for over 25 years. She is a long time student of Charles Tenshin Fletcher Roshi and is a Dharma teacher at Insight Community of the Desert.

Hugh O'Neill

Hugh O’Neill has studied and practiced meditation and Yoga for more than 15 years. He combines his many years of creative and management experience in the media industry with his intensive training in Mindfulness Meditation programs. He has trained in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction with it’s originators, Jon Kabat-Zinn PhD and Dr. Saki Santorelli. He is co-owner of Mindful-Way Stress Reduction Programs and had been teaching MBSR for many years at Universities, Medical Centers, non-profit and corporate settings. Hugh has been a presenter at the International Scientific Conference on Mindfulness. He is lead Mindfulness teacher in a number of clinical research projects.

The Historic Joshua Tree Retreat Center;
Joshua Tree Retreat Center is the longest running retreat center in the western United States. And continues to hold an important place in the evolving consciousness movement, playing host to many of the great teachers of our age. It is also the home to the annual west coast Bhakti fest and Shakti fest.

Set on over 400 acres dotted with iconic Joshua Trees, many of the buildings at this famous retreat center were designed and built by Frank Lloyd Wright and Sons.
And it's beautiful Sanctuary, meditation spaces, tree covered walkways, ponds, labyrinth, swimming pool and hiking trails make this a magical place to hold our retreat.

Being on Retreat

Being on retreat can be wonderful and relaxing. Our lives are so busy that it is easy to loose touch with the deeper aspect of ourselves.The time we spend on retreat can help us reconnect with our true nature. It also takes us out of our comfort zone and can therefore be challenging. It's a great opportunity to stretch yourself. There will be plenty of support for you from the leaders of the retreat.

The program will include periods of sitting meditation, walking meditation, Dharma talks, and meeting/interviews with the teachers. There will always be coffee, tea and some snacks available between meals. You are welcome to bring your own snacks. If you have special dietary needs let us know 2 weeks in advance and we will do our best to accomodate you.

Our retreats which range from half day events to day long and weekend retreats offer a safe container to unplug from your daily routine and take time to go within, exploring meditation and yoga while being supported by experienced retreat facilitators. Mindful-Way provide numerous retreat formats, and usually include periods of meditation, relaxation, mindfulness and yoga, with awareness practices with didactic sessions and supportive group discussions. We also facilitate different modes of creative exploration in some of our retreats. And Mindful-Way also creates custom retreat programs to suit the needs of your organization or population.

Refund Policy: At Mindful-Way we try and keep our classes very affordable and as a general rule we do not issue refunds.
However in some cases we offer discretionary refunds (less a % processing fee) in cases of personal emergency or unforseen circumstances up to 8 days before Classes/Events.
No refund for week-of cancellation or no-show.
